Defaults

We talk a lot at Vercel about good defaults. Performant by default, accessible by default, ergonomic by default.

Vercel turned on Preview Comments for all teams yesterday when the feature went GA.

Tons of folks discovered Preview Comments for the first time and loved it.

Even though Preview Comments was one of our best new features, teams could not find the setting to enable it without explicit support.

A few takeaways:

• If you want beta feedback at scale, consider defaulting to "on" with an easy way to opt-out.
• Onboarding matters a ton for enterprise customers.
• A feature is not shipped until a lifecycle email/notification alerts customers to its existence.

Most of us are busy. When building, remember that your customer is busy too. Do whatever you can to reduce friction for them.
